Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is the sudden death of an infant under the age of one year.
Studies and research have shown babies to be at the most risk for SIDS between 1 and 4 months of age and 90% of cases occur before the age of 6 months.
After 6-months of age, the risk of SIDS decreases greatly as babies are typically able to wake easily, lift their heads, roll over. Unfortunately a slight risk of 10% still exist for some babies to suffer from SIDS between 6 and 12 months of age.
Here are some recommendations for reducing the risk of SIDS:

Always place your baby on her back for sleeping (including naps)

Keep your baby away from secondhand smoking before and after birth

Do not sleep with your baby on sofa, chair or your bed especially when you are exhausted or sleep deprived

Ensure your baby’s cot is free from loose beddings, pillows, blankets
